Introduction:
In a re-imagined version of Japan during Sengoku period, a coup led by a warlord, Isshin Ashina, resulted in the establishment of the land of Ashina. During the war and turmoil, a shinobi wanderer, Owl, adopted a war orphan on the battlefield and named him Wolf. Years later, as the health of Isshin deteriorates, the Ashina clan is quickly declining and the land is facing increasing threat from the Japanese shogunate government. In a desperate attempt to save his land, Genichiro Ashina, Isshin's adopted grandson, has kidnapped Kuro the Divine Heir, a boy whose blood grants him immortality, to create an undying army. Wolf, now a fully trained shinobi and nicknamed "Sekiro" for "One-armed Wolf", is assigned by Owl to be Kuro's bodyguard and rescue him from imprisonment.

"Soulsborne" players should be quick to identify gameplay features similar to the two games. However, the core of the combat system of Sekiro lies in deflecting rather than blocking and dodging, and more importantly, a posture system. Both Sekiro and many enemies have a posture metre which fills when enduring hits, and once filled, they become vulnerable for an instant execution, called Deathblow in the game. The result is that even when playing defensively by only parrying enemies without actively attacking them, they will still be defeated. Ultimately, through continuous alternation between attacking and deflecting, fights become more complex and rewarding - the game is specifically designed to discourage attack/dodge-spamming.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Note: If you wish to read the guide in the order of how achievements are unlocked, please refer to the forum guide HERE.

The first playthrough is recommended to focus on learning the game mechanics and progress slowly, and at the same time collecting all collectibles to strengthen Sekiro's combat capabilities along the way. Midway, the game presents a very important choice - to ether obey Owl's command and forsake Kuro, or disobey Owl to stay loyal to Kuro. Both choices are ultimately required to get all achievements, but for this playthrough, the second choice is suggested because this path opens up many more achievement possibilities. At the end of this playthrough, if all ending preparations are made, it is possible to unlock three ending achievements by utilising the Cloud save.

The second playthrough is recommended to go for the first choice, which will be a much shorter playthrough.

The third playthrough is solely for collecting the rarest material for upgrading all of Sekiro's prosthetic tools to their limit, as this material is late-game and not available when choosing the first choice.

Mop-Up:
Post-game is available in this game, and late-game enemies yield better experience points. In addition, the higher the playthrough is, the more experience points are gained from enemies. This is needed for Sekiro to acquire all skills.

Kanji Translation:
Although the game has English translation, many in-game notifications are presented in Japanese Kanji. They do not impede the overall gameplay experience, but knowing what they mean can be helpful.

Conclusion:
Awarded Game of the Year, Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice is just as rewarding and challenging, if not more, than the Souls trilogy. It has an even steeper learning curve, but once that is overcome the game is great fun!

    Ashina Traveler

    60

Traveled to all areas of the game

*MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending.

There are 8 areas in this game. All Sekiro needs is to reach the areas; subareas and Sculptor's Idols are not required.

    1. Ashina Outskirts
    2. Hirata Estate
    3. Ashina Castle
    4. Abandoned Dungeon
    5. Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo
    6. Sunken Valley
    7. Ashina Depths
    8. Fountain Palace (inaccessible if going for the "Shura" ending)

  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Achievement Guide & Road Map (6)

    Master of the Prosthetic

    60

Upgraded all Prosthetic Tools to their limit

There are 10 prosthetic tools. All of them need to be fit into Sekiro's Shinobi Prosthetic by the Sculptor in the dilapidated temple.

    Ashina Outskirts
    1. Shuriken Wheel (found in the second level of the gate on the outskirts wall path)
    2. Robert's Firecrackers (bought from Crow's Bed Memorial Mob for 500 coins)

    Hirata Estate
    3. Flame Barrel (found within the campfire in the village area)
    4. Shinobi Axe of the Monkey (found in the small temple guarded by two eavesdroppable enemies in the village area)
    5. Mist Raven's Feathers (found in the shrine in the bamboo thicket)

    Ashina Castle
    6. Gyoubu's Broken Horn (found in the gatehouse in Ashina Resevoir; the key of the gatehouse is acquired by killing an eavesdroppable enemy on the side bridge just outside the long stairway of the castle)
    7. Sabimaru (found in a chest on the ground floor of the castle)
    8. Iron Fortress (bought from the dwarf shinobi NPC, Blackhat Badger, for 1600 coins in the building below the old grave)

    Sunken Valley
    9. Large Fan (found in front of the Buddha statue in Gun Fort)
    10. Slender Finger (story-related, acquired by defeating Guardian Ape)

Fitting all 10 tools into Sekiro's Shinobi Prosthetic unlocks All Prosthetic Tools (30G).

After acquiring the Mechanical Barrel from the boss Gyoubu Masakata Oniwa in Ashina Outskirts, the tools can be upgraded by bringing upgrade materials and coins to the Sculptor.

Most materials can be bought, found as items in different areas, or randomly looted from defeated enemies. The higher an upgrade is, the rarer and more materials are needed and these are usually looted from late-game enemies. There are three specific upgrade items which cannot be acquired otherwise:

    Ashina Outskirts
    1. Phantom Kunai (required to upgrade Loaded Shuriken; bought from the NPC merchant, Anayama the Peddler, for 3000 coins)

    Ashina Depths
    2. Pine Resin Ember (required to upgrade Flame Vent; found at the top of the hut across the lake in Mibu Village)
    3. Malcontent's Ring (required to upgrade Finger Whistle; dropped by the miniboss Shichiken Warrior in the same watering hole where Headless Guardian Ape is fought. He only appears after the Ape is defeated and Shelter Stone, an item required for Kuro's Immortal Severance ritual, is obtained in Mibu Village)

In addition, there are four tools requiring the highest and rarest material, Lapis Lazuli, which is unavailable if going for the "Shura" ending, and a playthrough can only have a maximum of six Lapis Lazuli:

    Fountainhead Palace
1 dropped by the miniboss Shichimen Warrior.
2 bought from Pot Noble Koremori for six Treasure Carp Scales each.
1 given by either Pot Noble Koremori or Pot Noble Harunaga after defeating Giant Colored Carp with their corresponding Truly Precious Bait.

    Ashina Outskirts (in siege version)
2 dropped by Demon of Hatred.

Hence, two playthroughs going for non-Shura endings are needed.

Skills are both active and passive abilities which Sekiro can master by spending skill points, awarded when enough experience points from killing enemies are accumulated. The number of experience points needed increases as the number of skill points earned.

It is reported that the achievement refers only to skills from 5 skill trees, unlocked by receiving their corresponding Esoteric Texts.

    Ashina Outskirts
    1. Shinobi Arts (given by the Sculptor in the dilapidated temple when one skill point is earned)

    Dragon's Homecoming

    30

    Attained the "Return" ending

*MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending or having defeated the second last story-related boss, Divine Dragon.

    1. After Sekiro defeats the story-related Folder Screen Monkeys in Senpou Temple, he is greeted by Divine Child of Rejuvenation, who gives him Mortal Draw for the Immoral Severance ritual. Divine Child can give rice to Sekiro as a blessing, and will only give more when rice is not in his inventory and he has travelled to other areas or advanced the story.
    2. When rice is requested three times, Divine Child will become weak and requests a persimmon from Sekiro. The fruit can be bought from Shugendo Memorial Mob in Shugendo for 30 coins.
    3. Upon receiving the persimmon, Divine Child is well again and now gives Sekiro not only rice, but also Rice for Kuro.
    4. Recieving it from Sekiro in Ashina Castle, Kuro promises to use it to make something nice.
    5. After Sekiro rests at aSculptor's Idol, he receives Sweet Rice Ball. Sekiro needs to eat it.
    6. When Divine Child hears about it, she asks Sekiro about Kuro and expresses her wish to meet him some day.
    7. After Sekiro defeats story-related Corrupted Monk in Ashina Depths and thus gains the technique allowing him to swim under water, he can dive into the pool in Temple Grounds in Senpou Temple to acquire a book called Holy Chapter: Infested, and give it to Divine Child.
    8. After Sekiro rests at aSculptor's Idol, Divine Child will be gone; she is now in Halls of Illusion, where Folding Screen Monkeys were fought. She expresses that Kuro's Divine Heir power can be returned to where it belongs. More information can be obtained from the temple high priest in the nearby narrow cave.
    9. On the high priest's corpse is the book Holy Chapter: Dragon's Return. Receiving it from Sekiro, she says she needs two persimmons of the serpent for the Dragon's Return ritual. One persimmon, Fresh Serpent Viscera, is acquired by defeating Great Serpent in Sunken Valley (please refer to Great Serpent (20G) for details), and the other persimmon, Dried Serpent Viscera, is found deep inside the cave of the poison ravine in Bodhisattva Valley in Sunken Valley, guarded by a second Great Serpent (the Puppeteer Ninjutsu is required to get past it).
    10. When Sekiro gives the two Serpent Viscera to Divine Child, she says she will eat them.
    11. After Sekiro rests at aSculptor's Idol, Divine Child will be overheard writhing in pain beyond the door, and will be inaccessible until the next step.
    12. When Sekiro meets Owl at the top of Ashina Castle after gathering all three ingredients required for the Immortal Severance ritual, he is presented with a choice: "Obey the Iron Code, forsake Kuro", and "Break the Iron Code, stay loyal to Kuro". Sekiro must choose the latter option and defeats Owl.
    13. After Sekiro and Kuro starts the Immortal Severance ritual and ignites the Fountainhead Incense burner, Divine Child will be found to have survived and she gives Sekiro the key item for the Return ending:Frozen Tears.

    (Optional:)
If the optional boss Owl - Father is defeated at this point, the "Purification" ending will be unlocked as well. Please refer to Father Surpassed (20G) for details.

All ending preparations are complete and now Sekiro can progress to the end. After returning from Fountainhead Palace, Ashina Castle is under siege and Isshin Ashina has succumbed to his illness. Kuro is hunted by Genichiro and has escaped through the secret passage of the castle. As Sekiro catches up, he discovers that Genichiro has the second Mortal Blade and has seriously injured Kuro. Still determined to not surrender his power, Sekiro fights Genichiro one last time. The fight is separated into four phases.

    Phase 1:
With only one Deathblow Marker, Genichiro Ashina fights like his previous phase three form. His new attack is Empowered Immortal Draw, which can sometimes be followed by a second strike, but he does not use perilous lightning attacks.

    Phase 2:
Defeated again, Genichiro makes his dying wish: by killing himself and reviving Isshin Ashina in his "Sword Saint" form, the true final boss of the game. He has three Deathblow Markers and many attacks, which include a three-hit combo, two perilous thrusts, Ichimonji: Double, a variation of Ashina Cross which can switch to a knock and a perilous sweep if Sekiro closes in, a 360-degree draw, and Dragon Flash (a move which sends out two vertical wind blades).

    Phase 3:
With two Deathblow Markers remaining, Sword Saint Isshin stomps on the ground and pulls out a big spear; he also has gained a gun. His new attacks are a three-hit combo which ends with a perilous thrust, a hit-and-run move for gaining distance, a leap slam (which can be followed by a single gunshot and a perilous sweep), a spear swipe which may be followed by four gunshots and then a perilous thrust. His signature move is a four-hit combo which can connect either the 360-degree draw or another three-hit combo ending with a thrust.

    Phase 4:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Sword Saint has a new move, a two-hit wind blades which he often uses after his 360-degree draw or at long range. He also gains the ability to use lightning.

Upon victory, Sword Saint, Isshin Ashina (30G) is unlocked, and interacting with Kuro on the ground will yield three different options:
    1. Give Divine Dragon's Tears
Choosing this unlocks Immortal Severance (30G).
    2. Give Dragon's Tears and Everblossom
    Choosing this unlocks Purification (30G).
    3. Give Dragon Tears and Frozen Tears
Choosing this unlocks Dragon's Homecoming (30G).

Playthrough saving trick: once Sword Saint Isshin is defeated, quit the game so that your save is synced to Cloud. Reload the game and select an ending. Once the achievement unlocks, immediately go offline and then delete your local save file. Once you reload the game online, the game will sync your Cloud save back to your console and you will go back to the point before selecting any ending, allowing you to choose a different one. This way you can unlock all three ending achievements in one go.

  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Achievement Guide & Road Map (21)

    Shura

    30

    Attained the "Shura" ending

    *MISSABLE*

When Sekiro meets his adopted father Owl at the top of Ashina Castle after gathering all three ingredients required for the Immortal Severance ritual, he is presented with a choice: "Obey the Iron Code, forsake Kuro", and "Break the Iron Code, stay loyal to Kuro". Sekiro must choose the former option, and he will immediately be confronted by two bosses.

The first boss is the NPC physician Emma, who has been assisting him in his journey. She has one Deathblow Marker. Her major attacks include combos, a perilous grab attack, a perilous sweep, a perilous thrust, a variation of the the Ashina Cross of the Ashina Art skill tree at mid to long range, and a perilous dash thrust similar to that used by Genichiro.

The second boss is Isshin Ashina. He has two Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into two phases. Consumables which can cure Burn status and the Loaded Umbrella prostheticare suggested for the second phase.

    Phase 1:
Isshin's major attacks include a perilous thrust, the same perilous grab used by Emma, the Ichimonji: Double of the Ashina Arts skill tree at mid range, and the same variation of Ashina Cross, which can be quickly switched to a perilous sweep when Sekiro closes the distance.

    Phase 2:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Isshin Ashina utilises attacks which deal Burn damage. His Ichimonji: Double now spreads fire in an arc on the ground. His new attacks includea perilous fire sweep, a charged draw which shoots out a long trail of fire on the ground, anda perilous fire eruption coveringthe whole ground at long range. The last move can only be avoided by moving away from the fire patches on the ground, and it is always followed by Isshin'ssignature move, One Mind of the Combat Arts, which strikes multiple times in high speed in a sheathed stance. Using the Loaded Umbrella can completely block this attack.

Upon victory, Isshin Ashina (20G) is unlocked and the playthrough will proceed to the cinematic ending.

    Defeated "Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa"

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

A heavy horseman wielding a long spear, Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa engages Sekiro when the latter has reached the battlefield outside the Ashina Castle gate. He has two Deathblow Markers, and the Shinobi Firecracker prosthetic is highly effective in stunning his horse for openings. His major attacks include a three-hit combo, a triple swing using the detached tip of his spear, and a perilous spear sweep.

Upon defeat, Gyoubu drops the Mechanical Barrel, which allows the Shinobi Prosthetic to be upgraded for Master of the Prosthetic (60G).

    The Phantom Lady Butterfly

    20

    Defeated "Lady Butterfly"

Lady Butterfly is an optional boss encountered in the the audience chamber dungeon of the optional area, Hirata Estate.

On the second floor of a destroyed building along the gate path in Ashina Outskirts, a civilian NPC, Inosuke Nogami's Mother, mistakes Sekiro as her son and gives him the Young Lord's Bell Charm. After taking it to the Sculptor in the dilapidated temple, Sekiro will be told to offer it to the Kind-faced Buddha in the temple. Pray at the buddha and Sekiro will be sent back to Hirata Estate three years ago in the form of his reminiscence.

An illusion practitioner and a former mentor of Sekiro, Lady Butterfly has one Deathblow Marker but the fight is separated into two phases. The Loaded Shuriken prosthetic is very useful for knocking her down to the ground for openings.

    Phase 1:
Lady Butterfly's major attacks include three-hit combos, kunai throws, a perilous kunai sweep, an overhead plunge, and a perilous overhead leg grab.

    Phase 2:
The Lady Butterfly in the previous phase turns out to be an illusion; the real one slowly shows herself to be sitting on the big Buddha statue. Once she leaps down to the ground, she has a high chance to immediately use her new move: phantom summoning. These phantoms can be destroyed in one hit or by the use of the consumable Snap Seeds; if not destroyed, they will be turned into butterflies which still deal damage when blocked. She also gains a six-hit combo which begins with such butterflies and ends with a perilous kunai sweep.

    Genichiro Ashina

    20

    Defeated "Genichiro Ashina"

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

Genichiro is faced again at the top of Ashina Castle, where Sekiro finds Kuro refusing to grant his immortality to the samurai. He has two Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into three phases. Acquiring the skill Mikiri Counter under the Shinobi Arts skill tree is extremely recommended, since it is the bane of thrust attacks, which Genichiro employs.

    Phase 1:
Genichiro's major attacks include a perilous grab attack, a leap slam which is often followed by a perilous thrust, a four-hit airborne arrow volley, and a charged arrow shot when Sekiro attempts to heal. His signature move is a seven-hit combo which has a long and obvious preparation stance, and is best evaded than blocked except for the last hit, which can deal good posture damage.

    Phase 2:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Genichiro is more likely to follow his leap slam with a perilous sweep, but may occasionally still use the perilous thrust. Identifying his stance as soon as he slams down is key to reacting correctly.

    Phase 3:
Now having just one Deathblow Marker, Genichiro always begins the phase with a perilous dash thrust. The last hit of his seven-hit combo, if deflected, is now always followed by a perilous thrust. He also gains the ability to use lightning, which can dealt out as a sweep, a slam, or an arrow. Lightning attacks are all perilous, and can only be caught by getting airborne as they hit and immediately pressing before landing.

Upon victory, Sekiro acquires the Bloodsmoke Ninjutsu, required for All Ninjutsu Techniques (30G).

    Guardian Ape

    20

    Defeated the "Guardian Ape"

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

A large furry beast, Guardian Ape guards the Lotus of the Palace, one of the items required for Kuro's "Immortal Severance" ritual, in the final section of Sunken Valley. It has one Deathblow Marker but the fight is separated into two phases. The Shinobi Firecracker and Flame Vent prosthetics are useful for the first phase, and the Loaded Spear and Loaded Umbrella prosthetics are highly useful for the second phase. In addition, consumables which can cure Poison and Terror statuses are recommended. Guardian Ape does not employ any perilous thrust attacks so Mikiri Counter is not needed for this fight.

    Phase 1:
Guardian Ape's major attacks include combos, a perilous sweep, a fart which deals AoE Poison damage, and a tracking poop throw which deals Poison damage at long rage. After half health it is more likely to use a perilous dive roll grab attack at long range. Guardian Ape can be stunned after receiving consecutive hits, and sufficient further hits during this opening can knock it backward to the ground for more follow-up hits.

    Phase 2:
Guardian Ape comes back alive. His attacks are all changed, including a perilous scream which deals AoE Terror damage, a perilous sweep, a forward dive slash, a perilous high jump sweep, and two combos. The perilous scream can be evaded or blocked by the Loaded Umbrella prosthetic, and successfully deflecting its combos can lead the Ape to perform an overhead slam which, once reflected, will stun it for a great opening. Using the Loaded Spear on it at this moment by pressing twice can deal great posture damage.

Upon defeat, Guardian Ape drops the Slender Finger, required for All Prosthetic Tools (30G).

    Guardian Ape Immortality Severed

    20

Used the Mortal Blade to sever the Guardian Ape's undying

After its defeat in Sunken Valley, the immortal Guardian Ape is resurrected in a big watering hole in Ashina Depths as an optional boss. It now has two Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into two phases. The Shinobi Firecracker prosthetic is very useful for the second phase.

    Phase 1:
Headless Ape fights exactly like how it fought in the previous encounter in Sunken Valley.

    Phase 2:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Headless Ape calls its mate, a brown Guardian Ape, to join the fight. The brown Guardian Ape, which has one Deathblow Marker, fights exactly like the original Guardian Ape in the previous encounter, but now with two Apes the key is to fight more defensively. The Shinobi Firecracker can be used consecutively on the brown Guardian Ape for very quick posture build up.

Upon victory, Sekiro acquires the Bestowal Ninjutsu, required for All Ninjutsu Techniques (30G), and at the screen's prompt, perform one more Deathblow on Headless Ape's body. Sekiro will use his Mortal Blade to kill the centipede parasite living inside Headless Ape, permanently killing the beast.

    Folding Screen Monkeys

    20

    Caught the Folding Screen Monkeys

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

After defeating Genichiro in Ashina Castle, Sekiro learns from Kuro that the latter intends to perform the "Immortal Severance" ritual so that his immortality can be destroyed and never be exploited by others. One of the items for the ritual is the Mortal Blade, which can kill immortals and is kept in Senpou Temple. In the temple, Sekiro interacts with the Illusory Hall Bell on the table in front of the big Buddha statue, and is transported to a different dimension where the Folding Screen Monkeys are.

Rather than an actual fight, this encounter resembles a puzzle. The goal is to kill all four monkeys, each of which has characteristics matching their names.

    1. The "Do No Evil" monkey, wearing white robes and invisible, can create phantom monkeys which dealTerror damage. It always appears at the very back behind Sekiro's initial location.
    2. The "Speak No Evil" monkey, wearing orange robes, can make alarm calls to other monkeys when it notices Sekiro. It can be easily dealt with by sneaking up on it from behind due to its poor sight and hearing.
    3. The "Hear No Evil" monkey, wearing green robes, can hear Sekiro's footsteps easily and flee. It needs to be chased to the platform near the large bell, with which can be interacted so that the thunderous sound stuns the monkey and renders it vulnerable.
    4. The "See No Evil" monkey, wearing purple robes, can see Sekiro easily and flee. To the diagonal left of where Sekiro's starting location is a room filled with water, where a doorway can be opened to let the blizzard outside blow in and blur the visibility of the area. Afterwards chase the monkey to this room and it will be vulnerable.

The Illusory Hall Bell can be infinitely used to reset all un-caught monkeys to their initial locations and states, while those caught do not escape, so it can be used upon an attempt which seems unlikely to succeed.

Upon victory, Sekiro acquires the Puppeteer Ninjutsu, required for All Ninjutsu Techniques (30G).

    Great Shinobi - Owl

    20

    Defeated "Great Shinobi - Owl"

Story-related if going for the "Immortal Severance", "Purification", and "Return" endings, but *MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending.

Sekiro must choose the latter option, and Owl immediately duels Sekiro.

Owl has two Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into two phases. As Sekiro's adopted father and mentor, he can use some techniques which Sekiro employs, most notably Mikiri Counter, so thrust attacks are highly not recommended in this fight. However, he does not perform any perilous attacks. In addition, consumables which can cure Poison status are suggested for phase two.

    Phase 1:
Owl's major attacks include combos, a pellet throw which temporarily forbids using healing items at close range, a kick followed by a backflip and a penta-shuriken throw, Chasing Slice of the Shinobi Art skill tree, and a double-shuriken throw followed by a somersault slam at long range. The last attack gives the best attack window by dodging Owl's point of impact and countering from his flanks or back.

    Phase 2:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Owl falls to the ground and begs for mercy, only to reveal that he fakes it to lower Sekiro's guard. His penta-shuriken throw is replaced by poison liquid which lasts on the ground for a short duration, and he has two new defensive moves, a smoke screen which can break Sekiro's lock on him (pressing through the smoke can quickly lock onto him again), and a posture recovering stance (Shuriken throws can interrupt this move).

    Father Surpassed

    20

Defeated "Great Shinobi - Owl" at the Hirata Estate

Story-related if going for the "Purification" ending, but *MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending or having defeated the second last story-related boss, Divine Dragon.

    2. Sekiro then reports to Kuro and starts the ritual. The Fountainhead Incense burner is on and produces a pink glow.
    3. Sekiro can now eavesdrop on a short conversation between Kuro and physician Emma to learn that his master intends to do what must be done.
    4. After Sekiro rests at a Sculptor's Idol, Emma will be found at the top of the stairs. She tells Sekiro that shehopes there is a way where Kuro does not need to sacrifice himself, and is presented with a choice: "I agree. Kuro cannot be allowed to die", and "No. My lord's will is Severance". Choosing the former option will encourage Emma to look for more information.
    5. After Sekiro rests at a Sculptor's Idol again, Emmawill give him a note which mentions a Purification process that requires a key item. Since this item is lost, Emma says she will go to the graves of two persons related to the Everblossom to see if she can remember more information about it.
    6. When Sekiro sees her standing in the Old Grave in Ashina Castle, Emma says she recalls nothing will ask the Sculptor for help.
    7. Sekiro eavesdrops on them behind the dilapidated temple and learns that either he or Kuro must die in the Purification process. If Sekiro confronts Emma about what he overheard, she will give him Father's Bell Charm, which allows him to pray at the Kind-faced Buddha and be sent back to a different version of Hirata Estate in the form of his reminiscence.

A man in his prime, Father Owl is an optional boss faced in the same audience chamber dungeon where the optional boss Lady Butterfly was fought. He has two Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into two phases. Like his Great Shinobi version, Father Owl can use Mikiri Counter, so thrust attacks are highly not recommended in this fight.

    Phase 1:
Father Owl's major attacks include the kick and backflip (but without the shuriken follow up), a quick-step shuriken throw which may be followed by a somersault slam, Shinobi Firecrackers, a perilous sweep followed by a charged overhead slam which can quickly switch to a slash if Sekiro moves out of range, Chasing Slice, and Shadowfall of the Mushin Arts skill tree. His signature move is a combo of an elbow push followed by a slash and a firecracker slash, which leaves an attack window by dodging to Father Owl's left before he strikes the firecrackers.

    Phase 2:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Father Owl's kick and blackflip evasion is now followed by a penta-shuriken throw, same as what his Great Shinobi version does. He now also has a summoned owl to assist him. He can disappear and teleport above Sekiro for a drop slam, or send it out as a perilous fiery owl sweep attack. The latter move is very likely followed by Shadowfall.

    Corrupted Monk

    20

    Defeated the "Corrupted Monk"

Story-related if going for the "Immortal Severance", "Purification", and "Return" endings, but *MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending.

Corrupted Monk first appears at the final section of Mibu Village in Ashina Depths but she is only an illusion. Her true self appears at the entrance of Fountainhead Palace blocking Sekiro from entering.

A big tall priestess wielding a naginata, True Corrupted Monk has three Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into three phases. Consumables which can cure Terror build up can prove useful for the third phase.

    Phase 1:
True Corrupted Monk's attacks are mostly combos of spinning slashes. She has a perilous thrust, and two perilous sweeps.

    Phase 2:
With two Deathblow Markers remaining, she begins the phase with an illusion fog. She disappears while black phantoms of her appears and deals three hits at a time. After a while she physical self appears again and uses the same attacks in phase one. She may employ the illusion fog again at low health.

    Phase 3:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, an immortal centipede bursts out from her neck and takes over her. Her posture metre also recovers much faster than before. Her major attacks include a five-hit combo which she always uses at the beginning, a quick slam, and a perilous Terror projectile from the centipede.

    Gracious Gift of Tears

    20

Defeated the "Divine Dragon" and obtained the "Divine Dragon's Tears"

Story-related if going for the "Immortal Severance", "Purification", and "Return" endings, but *MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending.

In the sanctuary of Fountainhead Palace, Sekiro finds the corpse of a woman kneeling against a rock. Praying at it will send him to the divine realm where Divine Dragon is. It has one Deathblow Marker and the fight is separated into four phases. The Loaded Umbrella prosthetic can be useful during the third phase.

    Phase 1:
Sekiro first faces multiple white Old Dragons of the Tree, all of which share one vitality bar. They move very slowly but can deal Poison damage at close range. Once killed, they come back alive but are brown in colour. When all white versions of them are killed, a cinematic cutscene plays.

    Phase 2:
Divine Dragon appears and its major attacks are a triple wind blade slam, a double wind blade slash, and a perilous double wind blade sweep at long range; at close range it can burrow below the cloud and strike upwards. In front of it are five trees, and some of them are about to conduct lightning, hinted by faint electric sparkles at their tops. Once Sekiro grapples onto them, lightning immediately strikes him in mid-air for him to reverse it back to the Dragon. This is repeated until its posture metre is full.

    Phase 3:
The five trees disappear. As Divine Dragon blows Sekiro backwards with a cyclone, it begins to attack aggressively by sending out multiple wind blades, some of which are perilous. The Loaded Umbrella can be used here to block all of the Dragon's attacks.

    Phase 4:
After about a minute, three trees appear and Sekiro needs to grapple onto the central one. A strong gust of wind carries him skyward and he receives the final lightning strike to be reversed back to the Dragon, which is now vulnerable for the Deathblow.

    Demon of Hatred

    20

    Defeated the "Demon of Hatred"

Demon of Hatred is an optional boss appearing in the battlefield outside the Ashina Castle gate, where the boss Gyoubu Masakata Oniwa was fought, after Sekiro returns from Fountainhead Palace with the final item for reifying Immortal Severance.

Once a human but now a colossal one-armed demon wreathed in the flame of hatred, Demon of Hatred has three Deathblow Markers and the fight is separated into three phases. The fully upgraded Loaded Umbrella prosthetic, Suzaku's Lotus Umbrella, and the fully upgraded Finger Whistle prosthetic, Malcontent, are highly recommended. In addition, consumables which can cure Burnt status should be readied. Demon of Hatred does not employ any perilous thrust attacks so Mikiri Counter is not needed for this fight.

    Phase 1:
Demon of Hatred's major attacks include a slow stomp, a double stomp, a four-hit combo, a head slam, a perilous rush sweep, a fire whip swipe which sends out multiple small fireballs, and a leap explosive slam whose signal is its body glowing bright yellow.

    Phase 2:
With two Deathblow Markers remaining, Demon of Hatred's perilous rush sweep is sometimes followed by a second rush. Its new attacks include a very long fire whip slam which requires running to dodge, and an octa-fireball summon which has intermediate tracking capability.

    Phase 3:
With one Deathblow Marker remaining, Demon of Hatred always begins with its new move, a perilous fire whip sweep which creates a ring of fire wall. In this phase it is susceptible to the whistle of Malcontent, but its effectiveness decreases significantly for each use. After the third use it will have no apparent effect.

Upon defeat, Demon of Hatred drops two Lapis Lazuli, required for Master of the Prosthetic (60G).

    Great Serpent

    20

    Defeated the "Great Serpent".

Great Serpent is first encountered through natural story progression when travelling to Ashina Castle. Later as Sekiro crosses a rope bridge outside Gun Fort in Sunken Valley, the Serpent appears again and destroys the bridge.

After these two events and after gaining the Puppeteer Ninjutsu from the story-related Folding Screen Monkey fight in Senpou Temple, Sekiro can use the technique on the dwarf shinobi enemy near the kite mechanism located in the starting area of Senpou Temple Mt. Kongo. The enemy will fly the kite, allowing Sekiro to grapple to it at a vantage point uphill and reach the other side of the valley. Further down the valley along the wall is a cavern, whose exit on the other side leads to a wooden beam directly above the Great Serpent for Sekiro to jump down and perform two Deathblows on it upon the screen's prompts.

Upon defeat, Great Serpent drops Fresh Serpent Viscera, required for Dragon's Homecoming (30G).

    Great Colored Carp

    20

    Defeated the "Great Colored Carp".

*MISSABLE* if going for the "Shura" ending.

Great Colored Carp appears in Fountain Palace as part of the natural progression, first destroying a bridge and second hunting Sekiro under the giant lake through a cave. When he makes it to Feeding Grounds, an NPC local, Great Carp Attendant, informs him that the Carp can be fed by ringing the nearby bell to call upon it. Normally, the feed for the Carp should be Precious Bait, but if fed with Truly Precious Bait, it will die.

Truly Precious Bait is given by two NPCs, Pot Noble Koremori in Fountainhead Palace, or Pot Noble Harunaga in Hirata Estate, both of them selling items in exchange for Treasure Carp Scales, which can be collected by killing big carps in various waters in different areas. Once either of them receives seven Carp Scales and their dialogues are exhausted, they reveal that they want to be carps, and thus give Sekiro Truly Precious Bait.

When Sekiro returns to Feeding Grounds to feed the Carp, either one Bait can be selected to feed it, and the next time Sekiro travels to Guardian Ape's Watering Hole in Sunken Valley, the Carp will be dead. In front of its mouth is the item Great White Whiskey, which unlocks the achievement.
