| ctgreybeard Premium Member 2007-Oct-29 11:12 am [INFO] Considering DirecTv - Western CTI'm considering switching from Comcast to DirectTv but one thing I must have are the "real" Connecticut TV stations like WFSB and WTIC. And, now that basketball season is getting started, CPTV. I called DirecTv today and they said that my "market" was New York but that I could request the Hartford market afterI signed up for the service. Has anyone in the Danbury/Bethel area signed up with them and tried getting the Hartford stations? The guy on the phone "guaranteed" that I could get them but didn't have a lot to say when I asked him what I could do if I couldn't get them, like could I cancel with no penalty. If I can't get Hartford/New Haven and CPTV then I'm not interested in DirecTv. Bill W |

ZeddicusZuul | ZeddicusZuul Member 2007-Oct-30 10:28 pm You probably want to research the practice of "moving" (including the quotes). Essentially, after you have a dish installed, you could call up customer service and have your service address "corrected" to a valid-seeming address in a different TV market. It's not a kosher practice under copyright law, but it's generally been tacitly tolerated by DirecTV. Also, FYI, DirecTV subscribers with New Haven County service addresses get Hartford/New Haven locals, plus WCBS, WNBC, and Fox out of New York. |

FYI, WCBS is no longer available to people in New Haven cty(nor anyone outside of Fairfield cty anymore). I'm guessing Directv couldn't agree on a retransmission agreement, thus they no longer provide WCBS as an Significantly Viewed channel, outside of Fairfield cty. |

| ctgreybeard Premium Member 2007-Nov-10 11:35 am Thanks for the info. Although we are in Fairfield County we hardly ever watch NYC TV stations, preferring the Hartford/New Haven offerings. I'm still looking for verification, from other than DirecTv shills, that I can get Hartford/New Haven locals plus CPTV even though I am in Fairfield County. The DirecTv rep said "Yes, you can request it." but only AFTER I had signed up for the service. And he had nothing to say about what were my options if the "request" was denied. Bill W |

I could use my daughter-in-law's address in Middletown ... hmmmm Thanks! that's what you will need to do. i "moved to boston 2 years ago, to get nesn hd when it first came out. i now get all of the boston locals through the satellite, and the ct ones through an antenna. just so you know. you'll end up paying 11% ct sales tax as well. 6% tax plus 5% some other bs tax that raises the sat price to 11%. i've been with directv for 6 years now, and wouldn't go back to cable ever. now dtv offers over 70 hd channels as well. btw, in fairfield county, you will not get ct locals. you will have to "move" if you want them. You'll need a waiver submitted through DTV, and the ct stations will never grant one. don't even bother with that. to "move" have the install done at your house. wait a few days. call them and tell them you need to correct your service address, but you need to leave the billing address the same(your real address) you need to pick a legit address in new haven, hartford county that doesn't already have directv. like your daughter in middletown. thats it. all locals are done by zip code. middletown will get all the ct locals. This method has always worked in the past, i cannot attest to it's validity right now. good luck with your decision. it seems like a hassle, but it's really easy. if you have any questions there is tons of "moving" info on the net. good luck to you. |

latichever | latichever Member 2007-Nov-19 1:20 am One reason I haven't dumped Comcast, although I'd love to, is because I want both NYC and CT channels. Cable does that and satellite doesn't. The only way I could see doing this would be to get the most basic cable package, and combine that with satellite. |
